Decatur - Mavis Garnet (Hitchcock) Roderick, 99, of Decatur died at 6:10 a.m. January 28, 2011 in Heartland Nursing Home.
A service to celebrate Mavis's life will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011. at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to West Decatur Church of God. Mavis was born in Shelby County, IL to Clarence Albert and Alta Elmira Hitchcock on January 9, 1912. She married Alvie Perry Roderick on October 13, 1928. He died June 27, 1966. She ran a vocational rehabilitation home for boys and girls for two years, and then went on to work for Mrs. Ritchie at her vocational rehabilitation home for boys for twelve years. Her last five years of working was spent working at Americana Nursing Home.
Surviving is her loving family including her daughters: Gloria (Wayne) Carnahan and Elmira (Toots) Sparr (Gene), both of Decatur; eight grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, fifty two great-great grandchildren plus two on the way, and one great-great-great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons-in-law, one son(Merle) one granddaughter and one great grandson.

Dear Toots and Aunt Garnet's Loving Family:
I am thinking about you all the time and wish I could be with you during this difficult time. Aunt Garnet was such a special woman in my life and helped me through some difficult times in times of uncertainty. She will leave her legacy with each of you who carry on in her absence. I know all the Hitchcock clan are together now and at peace watching over us until we are together again.
